One of the most beautiful places to visit (besides Lynchburg!) in Tennessee is Pigeon Forge and a couple of weekends ago, my family and I were blessed with the opportunity to attend the opening weekend of Dollywood’s A Smoky Mountain Christmas Festival. From November 8, 2014 through January 3, 2015, the festival is presented by Humana and features four million Christmas lights and some pretty amazing shows that you won’t want to miss out on!
Dollywood’s A Christmas Carol
We were treated to the all-new adaptation of the Dickens classic, Dollywood’s A Christmas Carol, which is 15-member cast show that will delight each and every one of your family members! In addition to the cast, you’ll see a holographic Dolly as the Ghost of Christmas Past. The Ghost of Christmas Present and Future are also holographic presentations. The scenery is beautiful Victorian set with period costumes, props and accents as well as fully orchestrated musical tracks that add to the excitement of the show. Even though most of us know the story, it brings the story anew in a way that only Dollywood could!
Parade of Lights
One of my favorite traditions during any holiday is to go see a parade! My boys have always loved to sit and watch each float as passes by and admire the beauty of the hard work in the construction and design. It is amazing what can be made into a float design!! We had front row seats to the parade and I am pleased to say that this one did not disappoint! It was bright, cheerful and full of recognizable characters – including Rudolph!
The Rides – Oh My!
When I was a preteen, I spent a lot of time at the fair because I was really involved in 4-H and during the down time between the animal and project shows, I would immediately hit the strip to ride the fastest rides available. At about 16, I ended up getting sick on a ride and decided that I was done with rides. I wouldn’t go on anything much faster than the Tilt-a-Whirl. However, visiting Dollywood is not something that we get to do too often so I made an agreement with my husband that I would take the plunge and ride the roller coasters. I have to admit that it was exciting yet quite scary at the same time! Our boys were a little apprehensive about their first coaster, Wild Eagle, but once it got started, they were cheering and asking for more as soon as the ride ended. I loved it but it was when I stepped off of the Tennessee Tornado that I knew I had been bitten by the thrill-seeker bug!! I am now ready to take on a few more coasters! The park houses more than 20 rides and attractions that were all dolled up for the Christmas season.
